Our fourth generation wind turbine kit! Build a realistic wind turbine to harness power out of thin air. Wind is one of the most promising sources of clean, renewable energy available today. Wind energy has been used for centuries to pump water and crush grain in windmills, and is increasingly being used to generate electricity to power our modern world. Assemble a wind turbine complete with electric generator and adjustable rotor blades. The blades are designed with complex aerodynamic curves to look and work like modern-day wind turbine blades. Conduct experiments with your wind turbine, including experiments to optimize its performance by adjusting the angle of the blades and the placement of the turbine. Use the wind turbine to light up an LED and charge a rechargeable battery. Convert the generator into an electric motor and assemble a small electric car to demonstrate a tangible application for stored solar electricity. Discover how the sun makes the wind, providing us with an endless source of energy. Read about different types of wind turbines and windmills, the history of this technology, and how wind energy can be used to power homes and electric cars. The full-color, 32-page manual offers illustrated instructions and scientific information.

Fun for kids
It’s definitely a great gift for kids. It combines the education of wind energy and the fun to run an EV together. The wind speed need to be a bit strong to power it up, but when it spins, it’s excited. I got it while it’s on discount, and it worth the price.

Batteries not included
You need a good quality rechargeable battery in order to have the product do its thing. I wish this product had a better attachment from the cone piece to the pole. It needs a nut or clip to keep them secure so it doesn’t fall off.

Very impressive scale model of a scaled down wind turbine for classroom use
I bought this functional model of a scaled down wind turbine to explain to my students how a wind turbine works. The parts are well made and realistic to the eye. I was also surprised at the quality of this kit. Overall this item is priced reasonably.

Poor Wind Turbine
Nicely constructed and easy to assemble from instructions. It looks like a real wind turbine, but unfortunately doesn't perform like one. It would take a hurricane to get the vanes to move not a hair drier as the manual suggests, or a 20" fan that I tried to use. Probably the design model worked, but no one checked the production units. Very disappointed! Ted

Wonderful detailed product with real applications.
Another wonderful product from Thames and Kosmos! When my young son repeatedly asked for a windmill to create electricity I did a search and ultimately decided on this one because of the extra depth of possibilities it contained. The windmill can charge a AA battery to be used in something else or you can turn the base into a car. Perfect for my son to see the applications of his wind energy. It came with a great book that goes into detail about the science behind wind energy and real applications of it. This is something we will have for a long time and will continue to learn from as he gets older. Product will last for years to come.

Clockwise or Counter-clockwise?
Assemble is easy for an 11 years' old. Information about wind and wind energy included in the manual / booklet is great. But that's all about it. Problems: 1) As pointed out by one other reviewer, when in generating mode ("arrows on the nose cone point to 3"), the turbine blades turns clockwise, not counter-clockwise said on page 9 of the manual. 2) Outdoor use to turn the turbine is practically not possible. In an indoor experiment with a powerful fan turned on to generate the highest wind, it can turn the turbine. We do not see charging indication lights on. We'll update this review if we ever be able to make charge of a battery. At best, this is an educational tool for illustration purpose. Product needs to be improved. Also, it seems that for those customers who got a free product to test, their reviews are in general on the generous side. Update on 01/22/2021: The red charging light is on after about an hour. We then continuously charge the battery for about 3 hours. The battery works to turn the windmill to a fan (spinning very slowly, though). My son turn the turbine into a car; however the gears are poorly constructed that they cannot drive the car at all. We put the charged battery into a Thomas train and the train drives nice and fast. As such, I change the overall rating from 2 to 3.

Broke apart!
Within 3 weeks this thing broke apart! The blades all broke off in the wind. Also, our decorative rainbow metal windmill turns easier in the wind than this thing did. Had to have really strong wind to spin. The resistance of the motor was the issue. You have to build the car each time to attach the motor to the wheels, etc and then break it all down again to make into a fan.

Excellent
Well worth the money

Lots of wind
I found that in order to turn the turbine blades, you needed a lot of steady wind. Putting it in my garden with a fence, trees and bushes nearby was pointless. Also, if you took it to a park, you'd need to wait all day for the batteries to be charged. I found it useful for demonstration purposes during a wind power activity for students in a secondary school. However, it was only useful with the wind turbines being turned by the use of the rechargeable batteries in the back.

Product great, no box
Ordered for wee man's Christmas, arrived today with no amazon box ! And who answered the door. Product is great but my first bad review only on the delivery let it down

Returned .. useless.. do not buy .. disappointing Xmas gift
Easy to build like Lego The motor resistance is far to high. The experiments with a hairdryer didn’t move the blades at all ;-( We held the blades without motor attached it span perfectly. It would need gale force winds but you can’t leave it outside in rain or frost. The motor built into a car with a brand new battery it turns the wheels but as soon as you put it on the floor it stops. Booklet was great lots of information just very disappointed it didn’t work Aimed for child 8-14. (I’m 44 very disappointed returned for refund I’ll buy a real one )

Sehr hoher Preis
